A Saree Where Cotton and Silk Blend Together to Make A Divine Piece
Call

Let me take you to a small town in Telangana called Gadwal.

No, it's not that sort of place which can feature itself in glossy travel magazines. Or explored by renowned travel bloggers.

It doesn’t even have the Instagrammable and Facebookable traits, but all it has is its artistic vibes.

The whole town is putting their ‘heart and soul’ into blending cotton with silk to make something divine.

Imagine how much creativity one should possess to create something like this.

Dear reader, Thats the beauty of Indian sarees!

The weavers not only make it, they just devote their lives to it.

Let’s plunge into the world of Gadwal sarees.

Process of making Gadwal Saree

How are the sarees made?

Though the process has a lot of twists and techniques. But this special type of saree is made by  a process named ‘Kupadam’ or ‘Tippadamu’

No, no, don’t ask me to pronounce it again.

All I can do for you is to explain how it is done.

Extremely glossy and vibrant silk borders are attached to the main cotton body through an interlocking weft technique, just like Kanjivaram.

Zari is used to make motifs throughout the border.

There are many types of motifs used in the border of Gadwal sarees.

Murugan, the famous peacock tail design, is significant among them. Apart from that, Rudraksha and South indian temple architectures are also famous designs of Kupadamor Kumbam sarees, famously called ‘Gadwal ’ worldwide.

Gadwal Saree, the fabric which possesses subtle Glamour

The beauty of the saree lies in its softness. It is proven that a 5.5-metre fabric is folded down to the size of a matchstick box for its extreme softness.

Can you believe it?

Despite the four to eight days of painstaking labour, amazing craftsmanship, and perfectly combining cotton with silk, the fabric's softness drastically contradicts its glamour.

Gadwal also evolved with time. Previously, Gadwal sarees were available in nude shades or pastel shades. But with time, bright colours have also been introduced.

Today gadwal is a renowned name in the fashion industry. Not only in India, but this fabric has craze in the USA and the UK, both the prominent fashion hubs.
